A Need for Growth
Guardian Heating & Cooling has been a leader in HVAC installations, repairs, and maintenance in the Chicagoland area since 1953. In 2007, Bob Lange purchased the business after working for the previous owner for 16 years and got to work making it his own.
Right away, he focused his energy on skill building, working one-on-one with each technician to train them on the unique heating and cooling systems they’d encounter across the city. He wanted to ensure the work would be done the way he wanted it to be done once they were off on their own.
This initial focus on quality and training proved successful (they grew 30% in year one), but profits plateaued after several years despite his team working more and more hours and jobs.

To get out of “no man’s land,” Bob worked with a coach to shift Guardian’s focus to growth. They started marketing, reorganized the team, and invested in software, including CompanyCam.

With that consistent growth, Guardian has invested in equipping each of their techs with new vehicles, diagnostic equipment, uniforms, and a top-of-the-line training facility, where they can hone their skills on the wide range of systems they’ll encounter that heat and cool Chicago.
In addition to helping him scale confidently, Guardian’s CompanyCam documentation turned one job from a potential $75,000+ lawsuit into 28 HVAC maintenance agreements for a condominium group.
