Adam Sand joins host John Talman to share his proven strategies for helping roofing business owners take their businesses to the next level. By focusing on the right-sized process, technology, and marketing improvements, roofers can take the next step and realize growth.

Know Your Business Stage: To get to where you want to go, you first need to know where you’re at. Depending on your revenue, Adam suggests that you focus on these initiatives:

  • $0 – 3M: Figure out what you do (service, pricing, process, customers)
  • $3 – 8M: Build processes, systems, and start delegating operations and marketing tasks
  • $8 – 15M: Scale through leadership, automation, and operational efficiency
  • $15M+: Focus on leadership development and long-term strategy

Budgeting & Revenue Planning: Adam suggests you take your two best and worst months, average them, and build your cost structure around that number. Then, set revenue targets based on your best month multiplied by 12. These simple calculations will put you on a solid path, and help you navigate the unknowns that you can’t control for, like economic shifts, political decisions, and tech disruptions.

Software & CRM Implementation: To get the most out of your software, you should choose one, most likely a CRM, to act as your single source of truth for a project. This prevents teams from entering what Adam calls the CRM Doom Loop, where operators struggle to find value, add on more apps, and then ultimately switch platforms. Once you’ve chosen a CRM, only add tech that simplifies your workflows.

Scaling Marketing & Lead Generation: Once your internal processes are solid, you can invest more into marketing and customer experience. Photos and videos of projects you’ve worked on, chatbots, video consultations, and instant online scheduling, can increase conversions on your website.
