You’re the boots on the ground doing the day-to-day work on job sites keeping it all documented. CompanyCam keeps your documentation simple so you can focus on the work, not the paperwork.
Here's how to get started: setting up the app, finding your projects, documenting your work, and communicating with your team.
Set Up Your App
You’ll be doing all of your CompanyCam work in the mobile app, so make sure it’s set up for you to do your best work.
In your phone settings, make sure that we can access your location because project and photo data are based on location. Also, allow notifications so that you’re updated when you’re assigned to projects, checklists, and tasks and mentioned in comments.
Once you're in the app, here's how the home screen is laid out:
At the top, you'll find My Stuff—your personal hub for staying on top of your work across every project. This is where you can view all your tasks in one place, no matter which job they're attached to.
At the bottom, the Workspace section is where you'll find your projects—nearby jobs based on your location, recently visited projects, and anything you've starred for quick access.
Find the Right Project
When you pull up to a job and open the app, you should see a project under the 'nearby' section at the bottom of your home screen that matches the address assigned to you. If they didn’t make a project for you, you can quickly create one yourself.
Tap into that project and take a quick look at how it's laid out:
At the top, you'll find all the logistics and details—the project name, address, and customer information. It never hurts to double-check the address. 1011 and 1101 look the same at a glance.
In the middle, you'll find the important tabs that house checklists and documents—everything you need to follow the job from start to finish.
At the bottom, you'll find the project photos—your visual record of everything happening on the job.
Now that you know you are where you’re supposed to be, let’s get to work.
Document Your Work
The camera is where everything starts in CompanyCam. After you take a photo, a menu of quick actions appears at the bottom of the screen. These actions help you quickly annotate, describe, and share photos with your team, speeding up the process and better organizing your media.
Speak & Type Descriptions
After you take a photo, you can add a description to it by selecting Speak or ⌨️. Speak allows you to dictate a description that will attach to the photo, while Type allows you to, well, type a description.
Descriptions help people back at the office know what they’re looking at and make creating AI-powered Pages a breeze.
Mark Up Your Photos
If you’re more of a visual person, tap ~ to open our annotations menu. Here, you can add text, circles, arrows, and more to highlight areas of interest, like pre-existing damage, serial numbers, or measurements.
Tag Photos
Tap the 🏷️ Tag button on the screen and choose a tag corresponding to your work. Or ask an Admin or Manager to create one if you don't see what you need. You can add multiple tags to a single photo, which is the real power here. Instead of being limited to one folder, you can tag a photo by location, material, damage type, and more, all at once, making it easy for you and your team to find exactly what you're looking for later.
Tagged photos make it simple for you and your team to quickly search for photos, build reports, and share information with clients.
Pro Tip: If you’re in an area with poor cell service, like a basement, you can still access your recent projects and capture photos and videos. Simply document like usual, leave your app open in the background, and your photos will upload to the project once you’re back on WiFi or cellular data.
Stay on Track with Checklists and Tasks
Checklists ensure you follow your company’s standard operating procedure on every job.
In a project, navigate to the To-Dos tab to see what current checklists have been added. If you don’t see any, you can create a new checklist from scratch or use a checklist template.
As you work through a checklist, you can attach photos to checklist fields and notate the condition of materials. Your team back at the office can follow along with your progress and reach out if they see you stuck on a particular task.
Note: If you take photos outside CompanyCam, you can still attach them to checklists.
You’ll also see Tasks in your projects which are similar in name but different in use. Tasks are used to create quick to-dos, like reminders to pick up equipment and supplies.
You can also create Tasks from photos and videos. If you see something that needs another look, add and assign a task for yourself or someone else who needs to sign off.
Talk With Your Team
We have a few in-app communication tools that will help you keep your conversations focused on the work and, better yet, keep you from juggling between apps while you’re on the job:
Project conversation. Use the project conversation to discuss high-level project happenings.
Comments. Leave comments on photos and videos so everyone can quickly see what you’re talking about without clicking through all the similar photos.
@Mentions. In both places, you can @mention users and groups so everyone gets notified of your message.
Translations. Comments, tasks, and project conversations are automatically translated based on each user's language settings, so your whole team stays in the loop no matter what language they're working in.
