Every job you’re chasing right now sits somewhere between a first call and a signed check. Project Boards give you a visual pipeline that shows exactly where each one stands, built entirely from the Labels you already use in CompanyCam.
Here’s what a board actually shows you, how the default Sales board works, how to set up boards that match your own process, and how it all connects to the rest of your sales workflow.
What are Project Boards?
Project Boards give contractors a visual way to track every job from the first lead to the final invoice. Built around your existing project labels, they make it easy to see where every project stands, move jobs through your pipeline, and keep the whole team aligned.
A Project Board is a kanban-style view of your Projects, sorted into columns. Each column represents a stage in your pipeline: a fresh lead, a proposal you just sent, a job that’s active, one that closed. Drag a card from one column to the next and the Project moves with it.
Labels are the columns, and you already have them
The default Sales board comes with seven Labels, each one a column on the board:
- Lead
- Proposal Sent
- Scheduled
- Active
- Complete
- Lost
- Unqualified
New Projects land in Lead by default. As work moves forward, dragging a card to a new column updates that Project’s Label. If a Project carries more than one Label, it shows up under whichever one was applied most recently.
You can rename, reorder, or add Labels to fit how your team actually works. There’s no fixed pipeline you’re locked into.
Who can touch what is tied to existing permission roles. Admins and Managers can create, edit, and delete boards and Labels. Standard users can move Projects between columns and view boards. Restricted users can view a board, but only see the Projects they already have access to.
Setting up boards that match your own workflow
One board covers most contractors, but you’re not limited to it. Run a separate board for warranty work, a different service line, or a specific crew, without touching your main Sales pipeline.
On the web:
- From the Project Feed, click the + icon at the top of the page.
- Enter a Board Name and click Create.
- Your new board opens as its own tab. Select Manage Board to add the Labels you want as columns.
In the app, tap the Board Name at the top of any board, then + New Board. A new board opens empty, and you add Labels through the gear icon in Board Settings.
Either way, once a board exists, creating a new Project directly from a column applies that column’s Label automatically. Start a job from the Lead column and it’s tagged Lead the moment it’s created.
Where Project Boards fit in your sales workflow
Project Boards are one piece of the sales suite tools built into CompanyCam, alongside Customer Directory, Proposals, Price Book, and Payment Processing. They’re built around the Projects and photos your team already has, so the pipeline view, the customer history, and the paperwork all live in the same place.
- Visual pipeline: Track projects through every stage, from lead to completed job, with a drag-and-drop board.
- Custom workflows: Create multiple boards and customize stages to match your team’s sales, production, or service process.
- Project tracking: Move projects between stages as work progresses to keep everyone up to date on job status.
- Label-based organization: Build boards using existing project labels, so your workflow stays connected to the rest of CompanyCam.
- Sales visibility: Pair with customer records and proposals to manage your pipeline from first contact through completed work.
If you’re already running CompanyCam, open Projects, then Boards, and see how your pipeline looks when it’s built from work you’re already documenting. If you’re not on CompanyCam yet, start a free trial and set up your first board in a few minutes.
Frequently asked questions
Do Project Boards replace a CRM?
No. They’re a pipeline view built on top of the Projects and photos already in CompanyCam, not a full customer relationship management system. If a dedicated CRM handles the rest of your process, CompanyCam’s integrations connect to most CRM’s so the two can work together instead of competing.
What’s the difference between the Project Board and Customer Directory?
A board shows where a Project sits in your workflow right now. The Customer Directory shows the relationship behind it: contact info, full Project history, and notes. A single Project can carry a customer record and a board Label at the same time, tracking both the person and the stage.
Can I sort Projects within a column?
Projects order by last updated automatically. Custom manual ordering inside a column isn’t available yet.
